I am a reader. I love to read. I love books.
Books. Glorious Books. So very Inviting. Books Glorious Books. I read when I’m not writing.
I go to Barnes and Nobles at least twice a month because I am throughly in love with the smell of books.
When I think about American Citizens banning and burning books, closing Libraries, fire libriarians I want to cry. As a child I lived for books. My dad took me and my siblings to the Detroit City Public Library to get our first library card. The thrill of going to the library on Saturday’s, sitting in a quiet spot and just reading. Fiction, Non-Fiction, Fantasy, History, it is all there for the reading. Pure heaven.
Remember the Dewey Decimal System. No. Well I do. And when I finally learned the to find books by location. They went and changed the game on me.
Yeah It was a real system. But I think most of my subscribers and followers know it and at one point and time in their life used it. Basically you go to the freakin card catalog in the library look us some letters and numbers, seek it out and that is where your book is. (Scary IKR).
So bascially this Librarian name Melvil Dewey didn’t have a life and probably wanted to torture middle schoolers so he invented this catalog card classification system as a way to find books essentially to psychologically torture us. But I am digressing back to 1976 and that never does anyone any good.
Books. They remind us that searching for something you really want is worth it.
Books remind us of our past and challenges us to reconcile with our future.
As It is Women’s HerStory Month. I close with a book I gave my grandmother so many years ago. Upon her death I placed it in my library.
I feel in love with the portraits and the stories of the beautiful black women. I was awestruck my the defining lines and strength in their faces. This book is weathered and has been read again, and again and again. And will be read some more.
Books allow us to go places we have never been. See things we have never seem. And dream, dreams we could never imagine. Read a book. It will blow your mind.
